"Your kids are my kids"

Local 3886 members, kids and supporters rally against cuts.

Members of AFSCME Local 3886, representing Meriden School Crossing Guards, have put a stop to efforts to eliminate nine positions in the City Council's proposed budget.

Several of the crossing guards, led by bargaining unit President Linda Ceneviva, rallied April 17 prior to the City Council budget hearing and then testified against the proposed cuts.

With parents and other community members expressing concern over children's safety, the Council decided not to pursue the elimination of the nine positions -- although they will attempt to eliminate three through attrition.

Council 4 state employees, including Executive Board members from AFSCME Local 749 (Judicial and Division of Criminal Justice Employees, pictured left) also turned out to show their support for the crossing guards' union.
