Stop CRRA From Privatizing The Mid-Connecticut Project
Something smells at CRRA, and it's not the garbage.
Our members who work for the Metropolitan District are using light as a disinfectant to show how the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority's plans to privatize a municipal waste-to-energy plant will destroy destroy 80 family-supporting jobs and drive up collection rates.
The Metropolitan District Commission currently handles waste processing operations under a contract with CRRA that expires Dec. 31, 2011.
In a letter to the Hartford Courant, bargaining unit presidents Gil Bironi, Bob Facey and Tom Raffa noted, "This is a slap in the face to the Metropolitan District Commission employees who have operated a technically complex and environmentally sensitive facility with dedication and skill for nearly 25 years. Absent a union, who will speak out about hazardous working conditions, ineffective management or threats to the environment?"
