NP-3 Stewards Conference

More than 150 workplace leaders from our NP-3 Administrative Clerical bargaining unit gathered in Prospect May 23 for the 11th annual Stewards Conference.

Guest speakers included Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, Comptroller Kevin Lembo, AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Lori Pelletier and Council 4 Executive Director Sal Luciano

Wyman praised Council 4 members for their hard work on behalf of Connecticut citizens, but also warned them about the possibility of a "Wisconsin moment," referring to Gov. Scott Walker's successful effort to deciminate the pay, pensions and healthcare of Wisconsin public workers.

"With the stroke of a pen, [Walker] took away the right to collectively bargain," Wyman said. "In our state, we can't let that happen. You're not going to let that happen."

Lembo offered an informative presentation focusing on Connecticut's budget situation, including the unfunded pension liability that's been reduced significantly by the Malloy administration.

The Comptroller also discussed his office's "Open Connecticut" initiative that puts state financial information at the fingertips of every citizen.

The NP-3 Bargaining Unit represents approximately 4,500 state clerical and administrative employees from Local 196, 318, 355, 478, 538, 562, 610 and 704.

Standing, l-r: Rob Raczka, Sheryl Chin, Lt. Gov. Wyman and Kim Peluso. Seated, l-r: Rosa LeChance, Cassandra Lang and Shermaine Edwards.
