Region 1 School Employees Support Food, Fuel Banks

AFSCME Local 1303-266, representing non-certified school employees (paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians and IT) in the Region 1 school district has donated $500 to each of the social services agencies in the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon.
According to Local 1303-266 President Julie Lang, the agencies will use the contributions to assist their town emergency fuel banks. Local 1303-266 has also contributed $500 each to support the town food banks in Kent, Lakeville/Salisbury, and North Canaan.
“We felt it was important to give back to the six towns we come from and serve. We wanted to have as a big an impact as possible,” said Local 1303-266 President Julie Lang, Executive Secretary at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
“We recognize that people are struggling more than ever. We see it with our own kids at the schools where we work,” added union member Gina Jasmine, network administrator at HVRHS.
AFSCME Local 1303-266 represents more than 60 non-certified school employees in the Region 1 school district.
