In Memoriam: Mark Williams, Local 1716

Council 4 mourns the loss of Mark Williams, a dedicated Hartford city employee and union member, who died at work Nov. 21, 2016. He was 43.

Mark was a maintainer for the Streets Division with 15 years on the job. He also served as a union steward and Sergeant-At-Arms for Local 1716 of Council 4 AFSCME, which represents more than 600 city employees across Hartford.

Mark was known for his compassionate nature. As recounted in the Hartford Courant, he would help citizens in need while he was plowing snow during a storm.

Brother Williams' name will be etched permanently on the Council 4 Workers' Memorial outside our headquarters in New Britain, and his legacy will be remembered at the 2017 Workers Memorial Day ceremony.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Mark's family, friends and co-workers.
