|We Make Connecticut Happen|
"Enough Is Enough!"
Council 4 staff brought our "Campaign for the Middle Class" to the rally.
More than 5,300 people attended the May 1 "Enough is Enough!" labor rally in Hartford, Connecticut to listen to our political, labor and community leaders issue passionate pleas to save the middle class.
Rally speakers included AFSCME Local 3145 President Christine Holschlag, RN, whose union represents front-line blood collection workers at the American Red Cross. Local 3145 members have worked two years without a contract and went on an unfair labor practice strike last year.
"Our union right to collectively bargain has made a middle class possible in this country and made America prosper as a whole," Holschlag told the crowd. "The majority of this country used to fall into the middle class, but it has been dwindling at an alarming rate. We are no longer a country to aspire to but a country of rich or poor. It is time we stand up to the CEOs, the corporations, the politicians and lobbyist firms that have taken part in this national attack."
