Saluting Our Veterans
The picnic will take place rain or shine.
Council 4 has sponsored this event since 2004 to coincide with the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Following our lead, delegates to the 2010 AFSCME Convention affirmed our union's national commitment to supporting veterans with a resolution encouraging AFSCME Local Unions to "adopt" veterans homes and causes across the country.
"Council 4 members have made a special commitment to the men and women who serve our country," said state Correction Officer and Local 1565 member Steve Curran, chair of the Council 4 Veterans Picnic Committee. "The picnic is a way for us to thank military veterans and to renew our pledge to make a difference in their lives. I encourage my union brothers and sisters to volunteer some time and help make this day a success."
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including set up, preparation and serving on the food line, as well as striking down at day's end. You should plan on arriving at 9:00 a.m. to help with volunteer tasks.
If you would like to volunteer on May 23, please contact Steve Curran by email at email@example.com or by phone at (203) 509-6342.
