|We Make Connecticut Happen|
In Memoriam: Brian Petronella
Brian Petronella speaking at a press conference in support of our striking Red Cross workers in June.
The Connecticut labor movement lost a great leader and friend with the sudden passing of UFCW Local 371 President Brian Petronella at age 54 on Aug. 6, 2010.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Petronella family and the members of UFCW Local 371," said Council 4 Executive Director Sal Luciano. "Brian was a powerful advocate for all Connecticut workers.."
Just two months ago, Brian walked the picket line in solidarity with our striking Red Cross workers, and pledged the support of his union in holding the Red Cross accountable for its treatment our members in AFSCME Local 3145.
Brian and UFCW 371 also have been great allies with Connecticut Working Families, helping to shine a light on issues such as the living wage, paid sick days and Wal-Mart's mistreatment of workers.
We will miss Brian very much. He made Connecticut a better place for working families.
