Unions Vets Criticize Iraq Outsourcing

NEW BRITAIN, CT (October 6, 2014) – Today, union members who are veterans of the Iraq War joined with Council 4 AFSCME Executive Director Sal Luciano and AFT Connecticut Second Vice President Jean Morningstar to denounce Tom Foley’s record of reckless privatization that resulted in an estimated $8 billion in wasteful spending during his time in the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.
Army veteran Dwight Frederick of AFSCME Local 714, Navy Veteran Jeremy Zeedyk of Sheetmetal Workers Local 40 and Combat Medic Ryan Henowitz of AFT Connecticut spoke at the press conference, along with State Sen. Edward Meyer of Guilford, co-chair of the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
Luciano and Morningstar are members of the Connecticut State Contracting Standards Board, which reviews the cost-effectiveness of outside contrasts.
