Remembering Dennis O'Neil

Council 4 and the Connecticut labor movement lost a passionate, powerful voice with the death of Dennis O'Neil, who coordinated our union's legislative and political program for 20 years until his retirement in 2011.

Denny died Oct. 12 in Litchfield. He was 65.

"Dennis had the glib tongue of an Irish poet. He could curse a blue streak when he saw injustice. He probably could have made a fortune as a salesman, but his heart and passion led him to the labor movement," wrote Council 4 Political and Legislative Affairs Coordinator Brian Anderson in his remembrance.

Denny was a fixture in Connecticut politics who supported many social and economic justice campaigns, and helped found Connecticut Working Families.

We extend our condolences to Denny's family, including his wife, Sharon (Sam) McClure, and his brothers Donald O`Neil and Richard O`Neil, his nephews Nicholas and Neil Stedman, as well as his stepdaughters Amy Green and Stephanie Moses.

In lieu of flowers, Denny requested donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1933, Hartford, CT 06144.
