CT Vets Have New Ballfield, Courtesy of Council 4 Initiative
Residents at the CT Veterans Home in Rocky Hill break in their new baseball/softball field, made possible by the Council 4 veterans initiative.
Residents of the CT Veterans Home in Rocky Hill christened a newly renovated baseball field made possible by the annual Council 4 Veterans Picnic. A dedication ceremony took place June 2, 2009, with the unveiling of a plaque thanking Council 4 union members for their continuing support.
"This is a wonderful day for Connecticut veterans," said Local 991 President Tom Stough, a member of Council 4's Veterans Committee and a Council 4 Vice President. "This field is a symbol of our commitment to improving the quality of life for the men and women who served our country."

On the Saturday of every Memorial Day weekend, Council 4 sponsors a Veterans Picnic that has raised more than $250,000 to help veterans at the Rocky Hill facility and statewide. Thanks to the generosity of union members from Council 4 and the AFL-CIO, residents at the Rocky Hill home now have large flat screen televisions, a gymnasium, and a computer lab.
