AFSCME Local 1303, representing 7,000 municipal and board of education employees, is doing its part to further the educational aspirations of its members’ families with the presentation of eight $1,000 scholarships to college-bound students whose parents belong to Local 1303 chapters.
Every year, Local 1303 leadership selects scholarship recipients based upon their grades, community involvement and an essay on the importance of union membership.
This year’s student winners (with parents and local unions listed in parenthesis):
"Our union is so happy and proud to award these scholarships to an outstanding group of students,” said Local 1303 President Stacie Harris-Byrdsong. “These young men and women understand the value of being part of a union family and the importance of pursuing higher education.”
