Statement from Michael Salemme III, President AFSCME Local 1159 Bridgeport Police Union in response to Councilwoman Maria Pereria “piglets” comment.

“The men and women of the Bridgeport Police Department risk their lives every day to protect Bridgeport residents and keep the peace. It is outrageous that an elected official would call us "piglets". Our members work under difficult circumstances and are committed to their duties every day. Elected officials should do their duty and support our officers, not refer to them in degrading terms. It is imperative that Bridgeport City Council members support public safety in our city. City Councilwoman Maria Pereira needs to resign.”
