PURPOSE:

This position provides field services throughout the organization.  Acts as a liaison between the Council and local affiliates, other unions, community and political organizations and others.  Mobilizes these groups to collective action.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:        

Works under the direction of the Director of Collective Bargaining and Organizing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Collective Bargaining:

  • Contacts and engages local affiliate leaders in Council collective bargaining action program.
  • Helps local leaders identify and recruit members to participate in trade union activity.
  • Assists local affiliate leaders and stewards in labor relations problem-solving; contract interpretation, grievance filing and initial steps of the grievance procedure.
  • Assists local affiliate leaders in organizing and coordinating internal union activity.
  • Acts as a liaison and develops working relationships with area labor, community, and political leaders.
  • Assists in identifying vulnerabilities within locals and affiliates and works to strengthen the ties between the membership and the Council.

Communications & Political Action:

  • Contacts and engages local leaders in Council political action programs.
  • Helps local leaders identify and recruit members for political action.
  • Organizes and coordinates Regional Council Political Action Committees.

Develops, promotes, expands and meets the fundraising goals of the P.E.O.P.L.E. Program – the unions’ grassroots lobbying and fundraising program.  Identifies and formulates new ideas and strategies for the program.  Devises ongoing plans for action to increase Council 4 P.E.O.P.L.E. Program membership participation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma and two (2) years of related work experience.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

Communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to schedule and prioritize workflow.  Ability to operate office equipment which includes computers, word processors, copiers, fax machines or other automated equipment.  Ability to take notes.

Ability to give clear and concise written expression to thoughts and ideas.  Develop promotional material and general correspondence.  Ability to make effective oral presentations in a variety of forums.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Extensive travel required.  Valid driver’s license required.

Salary Range: $82,705-$90,598
